Not all men will respond to all of the natural remedies for ED that are out there. But it might be worth giving them a try if erectile dysfunction has got you down.
Check out several natural remedies that might be able to treat your ED below.
There are some people who know Panax ginseng as red ginseng. But there are also quite a few people who refer to Panax ginseng by its other name: “Herbal Viagra.”
Over the last decade or so, there has been a ton of research done on Panax ginseng. A lot of it seems to suggest that taking it could be an effective way to treat erectile dysfunction.
Back in 2008, researchers took a close look at a collection of seven studies done on Panax ginseng. The studies monitored men using anywhere from 600 to 1,000 milligrams of Panax ginseng three times every day. And it appeared to effectively treat men dealing with ED.
As of today, there is still additional research on Panax ginseng underway. It’ll be years before scientists endorse Panax ginseng as a viable alternative to other ED treatments.
But for now, there is evidence that shows Panax ginseng may be able to help men struggling with decreased lung function and blood flow issues, which are two common problems among those struggling with ED.
For centuries, both men and women have been using Rhodiola rosea—which is also known by the names “golden root” and “roseroot”—as a traditional form of medicine. Many people claim it increases endurance, treats certain nervous system disorders, and alleviates gastrointestinal ailments.
There are also some people who believe Rhodiola rosea can treat erectile dysfunction. The plant has become the go-to impotence treatment for many men over the years.
There hasn’t been a ton of research done on Rhodiola rosea and the effect that it might be able to have on ED. But one small study revealed that it might be effective at helping those who have a hard time getting erections.
During the study, a group of men took anywhere from 150 to 200 milligrams of Rhodiola rosea every day for 90 days. At the end of it, more than two-thirds of the men revealed that their sexual function had improved while taking Rhodiola rosea.
The men also reported an increase in energy and a reduction in fatigue while using Rhodiola rosea. There is still more work for researchers to do before Rhodiola rosea becomes a viable option for those with ED. But it looks like it could potentially help people suffering from it.
Your body naturally produces an amino acid called L-arginine that is in charge of making nitric oxide. Nitric oxide encourages your blood vessels to relax so that you can get and maintain a strong erection.
Some researchers believe that increasing the L-arginine in men with ED could be one of the best natural ways to treat erectile dysfunction. Those studies on L-arginine prove it and show that there might be some validity to it.
One study called on a group of men with ED to take 5 grams of L-arginine for about six weeks. At the end of the study, more than 30 percent of the men said that they experienced big improvements in their ability to function sexually.
Another study shows that men might benefit from taking a combination of L-arginine and Pycnogenol, which is found in some forms of tree bark. That combination restored sexual function for 80 percent of men after two months and more than 90 percent of men after three months.
Studies on L-arginine continue, but there are some men who swear by its healing powers.
Dehydroepiandrosterone might be a mouthful for people to say. But studies done on male aging have shown that there may be a connection that exists between ED and low levels of DHEA.
DHEA is a hormone that appears in the body naturally. It’s produced by a person’s adrenal glands and is converted to either testosterone or estrogen after production.
In 2009, researchers set out to prove the link between ED and low DHEA levels by asking a group of men with ED to take 50 milligrams of DHEA every day for six months. They also gave a placebo to another group of men to compare the results.
At the end of the six-month period, the men taking DHEA were successful in achieving and maintaining erections more often than those who had taken the placebo. It produced some excitement surrounding DHEA and the effect it may be able to have on those with ED.
In more recent years, studies have shown how DHEA might benefit people with both ED and diabetes. Nothing definitive has been found yet, but it has increased hope within the ED community.
There have been numerous studies done on the effect that gingko biloba might have on those suffering from memory issues. Some people within the scientific community believe gingko could one day treat dementia and other memory-related conditions.
It was during one such study that researchers found that gingko might also be something used to treat erectile dysfunction one day. People participating in a memory enhancement study let researchers know that they started experiencing better erections while taking gingko.
Researchers think that this happens because gingko increases the amount of blood flow that makes it to a man’s penis. However, subsequent studies on gingko have failed to prove that it can serve as a true ED treatment, so it’s still unclear how effective it is for those with ED.
Yohimbine is a supplement found in the bark located on the outside of African Yohimbe trees. It has sparked some discussion in the ED community over time thanks to the positive effects it has produced in some men during studies.
One specific study showed that taking Yohimbe might help men enjoy better sexual performances moving forward. Men were more than likely to get and keep erections when using Yohimbe.
But even with that in mind, there haven’t been too many other studies done on Yohimbe over the years. It’s why the American Urological Association has shied away from recommending it as a possible ED treatment as of now.
There are also some dangerous side effects that could come along with using Yohimbe. It may increase blood pressure, cause irritability, and even lead to tremors.
You should speak with your doctor before trying any of the natural remedies for ED listed here. But you should be especially mindful of doing it when it comes to Yohimbe.
Horny Goat Weed
There are no official studies on epimedium, a.k.a. horny goat weed, as of right now. Researchers haven’t gotten around to seeing how epimedium might affect the human body.
But there are some people who claim that there are substances in the leaves of horny goat weed that can improve a man’s ability to perform in the bedroom.
There are also others who claim that horny goat weed could have a negative impact on a person’s heart and make it hard for them to breathe. But once science catches up and is able to study horny goat weed, it should shed some much-needed light on what it might be able to do to help you.
