Tadalafil FAQ: What Is It, and How Effective Is It on Erectile Dysfunction?

What Is Tadalafil?

Tadalafil is a well-known generic formulation of erectile dysfunction medication. A common brand name for it is Cialis.

What Is Tadalafil Used For?

Taladafil is also used to treat other health conditions apart from erectile dysfunction.

One of these is pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which is high blood pressure that affects the blood vessels connecting the heart and lungs. The medicine works on the nitric oxide pathway, improving blood flow.

What is nitric oxide? It is a substance which helps expand the blood vessels to allow proper blood flow.

The FDA also expanded the medication for the treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). One of its classic symptoms of BPH is an enlarged prostate, but the condition is not prostate cancer.

Tadalafil is neither an herbal remedy nor a kind of birth control for men. This is also not a recreational drug.

Do I Need Prescription for Cialis or Tadalafil?

The answer is yes. It is only a medical doctor, who’s usually a urologist, who can tell you whether you should take these and determine the ideal tadalafil dosage.

They are going to study your medical history, perform an exam, and identify your symptoms.

How Long Does Tadalafil Take to Kick In?

It depends on the composition of the medicine and tadalafil dosage. For example:

  • Higher-dosage tablets such as tadalafil 20mg can be “weekend pills” since they have a lifespan of more than 24 hours but not longer than 36 hours.
  • The lower-dosage options, which are 5mg and 2.5mg, may be ideal for everyday use.

Keep in mind, though, that only a medical doctor can tell the right tadalafil dosage.

Does Tadalafil Work as a Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction?

Studies showed tadalafil generic medication can be just as effective as its brand-name counterpart.

For example, in one of the clinical trials, those who took tadalafil 60mg were able to develop an erection to perform intercourse 73% of the time. Men who took the medicine at 20mg did it 81% of the time.

Meanwhile, 59% of the men who received a tadalafil dosage of 10mg and tried to have sex reported being able to maintain an erection to complete the intercourse. The percentage was higher among the ones who received a higher dosage (20mg) at 71%.

Can I Take Tadalafil Daily?

Taking Tadalafil for healthy treatment

Yes, one may take tadalafil daily, but it is ideal for lower-dosage tablets. Higher-dosage ones may be taken once every 36 hours or as tolerated.

Do note though that this medication is usually prescribed to be taken as needed, meaning prior to sexual activity. In the end, only a medical doctor can give you a medication prescription, detailing the ideal dosage and intake frequency for your ED.

Can Women Take Tadalafil?

Women can also have sexual health issues similar to men’s, but the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved tadalafil for male use only, specifically for the ones with erectile dysfunction. This drug is not recommended for women looking to resolve sexual dysfunction.

Is Tadalafil Viagra?

While both are helpful in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, they are not the same.

They have different active ingredients as Viagra contains sildenafil citrate.

They also vary in their duration of effectiveness. While higher-dosage tadalafil tablets can last for about 36 hours before their effectiveness diminish, Viagra may have a shorter lifespan.

In this regard, tadalafil medication is a better option if you need prolonged effects.

What Are the Side Effects of Tadalafil?

Like any medicine, some may be sensitive to it. Some common side effects include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Blurry vision
  • Upset stomach or diarrhea
  • Flushing or warmth and redness in the chest, neck, and face
  • Back pain
  • Nausea
  • Stuffy nose

It may not be ideal for those with retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disease which results in gradual loss of vision. This is because it may also inhibit an enzyme called PDE6, which is necessary for vision.

Can Tadalafil Cause Kidney or Liver Problems?

There have been no reports of liver or kidney problems resulting from tadalafil. But such conditions are contraindications for the medication as the body will not be able to properly digest and dispose of it.

Which Medication Is Contraindicated with Tadalafil?

This depends on the other drugs you’re taking. But, it may not be ideal to take it with the following:

  • Amyl nitrite
  • Isosorbide dinitrate
  • Adempas

Your medical doctor may also prevent you from taking the medication with grapefruit juice. The combination will affect the way the body metabolizes tadalafil, and it may only become less effective.

Although they may have similar effects, it’s not advisable to take tadalafil and sildenafil together. This is so as therapeutic duplication for erectile dysfunction is not always recommended unless the benefits have been assessed to outweigh the risks of adverse effects.

Erectile dysfunction is one of the common problems men face, but it is treatable with medication such as tadalafil. Before you take it, though, make sure you get a diagnosis and prescription from your medical doctor. Or talk to our licensed physicians and get started now!

This drug is safe to take even for long-term, but at the end of the day, it’s your health and well-being which remains a priority.
